Where I stand:

Hey there, enjoying the heat? I sure as hell am not. For those of you who think Los Angeles is a year round paradise, let me assure you that's definitely not true for at least half of LA: the often forgot about San Fernando Valley is an absolute hell hole in the summer! If consistent triple digit temperatures wern't enough for you, how about 119 degrees in Woodland Hills last weekend?!

Anyway yesterday's show was a continuation of the climate change debate, and how I really think an increase in Nuclear power is the next logical step to easing the footprints humanity leaves behind everyday. Listen to the show to find out why now more than ever, nuclear makes a lot of sense.

People often ask me what's the most important socio-political issue. For me, it's got to be environmental conciousness. There's a score of issues I consider very important as well, but honestly, how can where you live not be the number one for all of us? We don't have the capability of abandoning this planet for another one obviously, don't we need to have the utmost respect for planet Earth? As I say in yesterday's show, I'm far from an extremists. I don't have a bio diesel car (though I wish I did), and I don't carpool as often as I should. But I'm extremely concious of my electricity usage, and I try my best to recycle all the time and avoid littering.

If you haven't already listened to my environmental show, listen for a lot of great little tips to be better to the only planet we can call home.

Although I consider myself more environmentally friendly than most, I am also pro market economy solution. And I know this country especially can do a better job of integrating those two concepts. I can't wait for the day when solar power companies generate profits as big as the oil giants, or when we finally figure out the secrets of nuclear fusion and do away with fossil fuels altogether. And although I realize those times are a ways off, we should be approaching them with greater speed. The oil companies have no motivation to change because there's still roughly a TRILLION barrels of oil lying under the Earth's surface. But as venture capitalists begin to see alternative energy as the next big thing, watch out Chevron.

Someday the oil companies will go the way of the dinosaurs, and we'll wonder how we ever allowed our environment to get so out of whack. For now though, I'll just do my part by driving a gas efficient car, turning off the kitchen light when I'm done, and using my trader Joe's cloth grocery bag.

By the way, YakkYakk's going to be at the US Open of Surfing this weekend in Huntington Beach intrviewing some of the biggest names in the sport and reporting the winners of one of Surfing's biggest contests! Come down and beat the heat with us this weekend from noon to 5 on Saturday and Sunday!
